Do I paint every day?

Finishing work for the Decatur Arts Festival on May 3-4
Recently, someone asked me, “Do you paint every day?”
It made me pause and reflect. The honest answer is: no, I don't paint every single day. But I do engage with my art daily, in one form or another.
My paintings are deeply connected to my experiences. They are reactions to the world around me, to the moments I live through. Some days, that means stepping away from the canvas and immersing myself in life—taking a walk, attending an event, or simply observing the world. These experiences are not separate from my art; they are integral to it.
Living life fully provides me with a rich tapestry of emotions, questions, and insights. These elements eventually find their way onto the canvas, sometimes consciously, other times subconsciously. The act of living becomes a form of preparation, a way of gathering the raw materials that will later be transformed into art.
So, while I may not hold a brush every day, I am constantly engaged in the process of creating. Each day offers a new opportunity to observe, to feel, and to prepare for the next moment of inspiration.
