My first commission is finished, dry, signed and approved! It’s officially done! This is so exciting!!!

Best of all, my client loves it! I’m so grateful that she trusted me to paint a piece that she’ll see every day in the entrance of her home—a piece to welcome her guests. I hope it brings her a lifetime of joy and peace.

This painting feels like quite a milestone for me. Not only is it my first commissioned piece, it’s the first piece I’ve ever sold! In the past I kept most of my paintings or just gave them away to my close family, so it feels pretty great to sell one.

Now that I’m pursuing fine art, my mindset is VERY different, too. I no longer feel a sense of sadness or attachment when seeing my work go to another home. In fact, it’s just the opposite! I’m excited to see my pieces find new homes. If my work can bring a smile, positive emotion, some happiness, a bit of calm, peace, or beauty into someone else’s life then I’ve done exactly what I’ve set out to do!

And my final first, and is a big one… I feel like this is my first REAL large painting. Other large paintings that I’ve done felt more like practice. They never felt exactly right. Not quite done. Something was missing. They didn’t have the edge that I’ve been looking for. I never felt a sense of achievement with them. Happily, this is the first large painting that feels professional to me. It can actually hang proud. It’s very satisfying to finally have my work meet my own standards. Exciting progress!
