Rippling Water is finished!

I finally finished my latest painting, Rippling Water (8x8 in) in oils!

This piece was super challenging — much more than expected. When I first chose to paint water, I thought a small canvas would be good to start with as a practice piece. Was I ever wrong! This painting has so many details and intricate color changes, that a larger canvas would have been much easier to paint well.

So, I’ll call this painting a lesson in selecting canvas sizes. The more experience I get and the more “mistakes” I make, the better I’ll get at this whole painting thing.

I’m pleased with the final piece. I think it has great motion, drama and is quite dynamic. And the color palette is rather pleasing to me as well.

My color swatches were helpful in selecting my final color palette for the piece.
