Cristina Montesinos is a third generation Latin American artist living and working in Atlanta. Now a full-time painter, she spent over 25 years as a graphic designer and creative director. Seven years ago she transitioned to painting, working the last 4 years as a full-time painter.
Born and raised in Costa Rica in a large, tricultural family of artists, Cristina has a rich foundation for her work and life as an international artist.
Her greatest inspiration comes from her deep passion for and connection to nature. Drawing on her daily mindful practices and embracing her gentle, quiet, observational nature, Cristina’s paintings reflect her responses to the often difficult happenings in our world.
A Family of Artists
Born into a family of artists, Montesinos has been surrounded by art her entire life. The Montesinos family of painters began with her grandfather, Julio Montesinos Malo, from Cuenca, Ecuador. At an early age he spearheaded a 1930s Ecuadorian underground political magazine, featuring many of his own caricatures and stories. Julio Montesinos Malo passed on his love of art and painting to his family. Cristina recalls large family gatherings in Ecuador with energetic art sessions, at a table full of art supplies. She fondly remembers the loud, large family dinners ending in laughter, with the artists drawing caricatures of each other on dinner napkins. Today two of her uncles work as painters in Ecuador, as do her sister, father, aunts and cousins.
Current Work
Cristina’s work is available in galleries in Decatur, GA. Commissions also hang in an upscale Atlanta spa and can be seen on the streets of Decatur as a public mural. Notably, Cristina’s work was recently featured on hundreds of billboards across Atlanta as part of a juried exhibition.
