A family treasure
September 30, 2019
It’s wonderful to be back at our grandparents’ house in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where all my beautiful memories were made. This is also the origin of my passion for art.
The house was designed by my Grandfather. I have memories of it filled with loads of cousins, aunts and uncles of all ages. At times probably 20 of us stayed here at a time. It’s also always been full of art, a living gallery, in fact, that changed as new pieces were completed. Every wall space was filled with family art and photographs, especially the first wall you see when you walk in.
These photos are from my grandfather’s desk. His brushes and palette. This is where all the magic happened, as he’s the family’s first graphic designer and painter. We now have at least 8 graphic designers and about 12 painters in the family, assuming I’ve not missed one.
He loved gardening, and in its prime the back yard was a dream.
My grandmother was also a beautiful, gentle soul who spent her lifetime caring for all of us. When she sat she was also preparing the next meal in her lap, snapping beans or knitting. She’s also the origin of our deep family spirituality.
Our grandparents loved all of us deeply and unconditionally. They laid the groundwork for the treasure that our family is today.
